Pain in the lumbar region in most people is associated with sciatica, although the causes of its occurrence are quite diverse.
Such a symptom accompanies not only the defeat of the paravertebral structures, but also many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and the genitourinary system, as well as metabolic disorders and oncological processes.
That is why, before using alternative methods, it is strongly recommended to consult a doctor and find out the cause of the pain.
In addition, acute back pain is not always stopped by the usual methods - pills or lotions. Sometimes surgery or medical blockade is required.
A complex approach
If the back hurts in the lumbar region, the most common diagnosis is "osteochondrosis" or "intervertebral hernia". The main condition for successful treatment is the elimination of the causative factor that caused the pain. Otherwise, medicines or physiotherapy will be powerless, and the disease will become chronic.
Treatment of the back and spine begins with a sparing regimen, which means the rejection of any physical activity. For severe pain, bed rest is recommended. To speed up recovery and get rid of discomfort, doctors advise purchasing an orthopedic pillow and mattress.
This will reduce the load on the spinal column, prevent compression of nerve endings and muscle spasms. If it is not possible to buy special devices, then it is better to sleep on a mattress of medium hardness, and choose a pillow of medium thickness.
Drug therapy prescribed by a doctor usually includes not only anti-inflammatory and painkillers, but also vitamin complexes. In the rehabilitation period, physiotherapy, exercise therapy, massage are carried out. As an additional method, you can use folk remedies, which should be agreed in advance with your doctor. With a known diagnosis and the approval of a specialist, treatment of the spine at home will be much more effective.
Folk recipes for back pain
You can eliminate pain with the help of ordinary mustard plasters, which are in almost every home. Due to the local reflex effect, they irritate the skin and increase blood flow. Due to the rush of blood, metabolic processes in tissues are accelerated, oxygen transport improves, pain and inflammation decrease. Another important effect of mustard plasters is to stimulate the synthesis of adrenaline and norepinephrine, which has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system.
Recipe number 1. Add 50 ml of Furacilin and one teaspoon of liquid honey to the water for mustard plasters. You can use a ready-made solution of Furacilin (sold in a pharmacy) or dissolve 1 tablet in 50 ml of water. Dip the prepared mustard plaster into the solution for a few seconds, then remove and apply to the sore spot.
Hold the compress until a burning sensation appears, then remove and wipe the skin dry. Lubricate it with cream or oil, cover with plastic wrap and wrap with a warm cloth.
Recipe number 2. Burdock leaves are another affordable home remedy to help relieve back and lower back pain. Rinse a few fresh leaves, then stack them in a pile so that they are in contact with each other on the green and purple sides. Dip this stack into boiling water and boil for 2-3 minutes, carefully remove it without disturbing their mutual arrangement, and cool. Apply to the lower back, fixing with a bandage and a warm scarf.
What to do if "entered" in the back
Men are thought to be more susceptible to sciatica because they engage in physical work or sports, lift and carry heavy loads, drive for long periods of time, and are often overweight. Therefore, they often complain that they "grabbed their back" or "wedged" in the lumbar region.
Lumbar backache can overtake anywhere: at work, in the gym or at home. In this case, first aid measures will help:
- find the most beneficial position in which pain is felt the least, and stay in this position;
- do not make sudden movements, it is advisable not to move at all;
- take an analgesic or anti-inflammatory medicine (Diclofenac, Ibuprofen);
- apply an anti-inflammatory ointment to the painful area;
- if there is a woolen elastic belt, tie it around the waist, fixing the spine in a fixed position;
- lie on your back, bend your knees and put a cushion made from a folded towel or blanket under them. In this position, the lumbar muscles relax as much as possible.
When the described recommendations are followed, the pain usually subsides in about half an hour. If an attack of burning pain appeared after a serious spinal injury, it is imperative to contact a traumatologist.
Medical assistance is also required in the following circumstances:
- the victim is over 60 years old;
- have an oncological disease;
- increased body temperature;
- the attack was preceded by long-term treatment with hormonal drugs;
- pain in the lower back bother more than a month;
- markedly decreased body weight, despite the lack of diet.
If there are no analgesics at home, and there is no strength to prepare remedies according to folk recipes, you can try to anesthetize your back with a burdock leaf. It does not need to be scalded with boiling water, soaked or boiled, but simply applied with a shiny side to the body. Secure with a bandage on top and wrap with a woolen scarf. Keep the compress for no more than 12 hours.
An equally simple recipe involves the use of valerian tincture if burdock was not found. It is necessary to moisten gauze or cotton cloth in it, which should then be placed on the lower back.
The next 2 recipes are somewhat more difficult to prepare: one of them will need black radish, and the second will need turpentine and red clay.
Recipe number 1. Grate the radish and put on cheesecloth. Apply to the back, cover with cellophane and insulate the affected area of the back. Hold until strong heat appears.
Recipe number 2. Dilute 1 kg of clay with water, add 3 tablespoons of turpentine to it. You will get a mass that looks like a cake, which is used as a compress.
